John Morgan, pictured here with his wife, was born at Gutchpool Farm, Gillingham, Dorset, and baptised on 3rd of January 1830.. John was the eldest of nine sons born to Edmund and Miriam (Coombes) Morgan who married at Gillingham on 26th of February 1829. Fay Dobbs sent us this photo and tells us that all John’s surviving brothers emigrated to New Zealand. Gutchpool Farm is now home to a company manufacturing scientific instruments.
